As a response to the Sars-COV-2 pandemic, the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) made a special call for research on coronaviruses. One of the projects selected for funding is the collaborative project by the NCCR RNA & Disease groups of Sebastian Leidel, Ramesh Pillai and Volker Thiel entitled “A multidisciplinary approach to identify vulnerabilities of SARS-CoV-2 for vaccine development”. The project will look into how the virus hijacks the host translation machinery including the role of RNA modifications in this process. The insights gained should allow for the creation of synthetic attenuated viruses for vaccine development.
