Yves Barral is Professor of Cellular Biochemistry at the Institute of Biochemistry at ETH Zurich. The Barral lab studies asymmetric cell division, cellular compartementalization and aging using yeast as model organism. In this context, they investigate the role of RNA and RNA binding proteins in these processes. For example, they could show that condensates of the RNA binding protein Whi3 control mating decisions of individual yeast cells.
