We are pleased to announce the 2nd edition of the Swiss RNA Therapeutics Summit on January 25, 2024, at the University of Bern.

The keynotes will be delivered by Paul Nioi – Senior Vice President of Research at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, and Martin Jinek – Associate Professor at the University of Zurich.

Paul Nioi has a long track record in the pharmaceutical industry and was/is involved in large scale population genomics projects. Alnylam was the first company to get a siRNA therapy approved and has the most approved ones. They also developed the first siRNA for a disease affecting large parts of the population and are working towards applying siRNAs to targets beyond the liver.

Martin Jinek was one of the co-discoverers of CRISPR as a genome engineering tool during his postdoc in the lab of Jennifer Doudna at UC Berkley. In light of the FDA and British approvals of the first CRISPR therapies a bit over 10 years after the seminal discoveries, we are very pleased to have a speaker who has been on top of the field since its beginnings to now.

This year’s edition will feature three panels on “Technological Trends & Needs”, “Communication” and “How to Break Down Barriers for Translation in Academia”. Related to the last mentioned panel, there will be a session with “Translational Academic Talks”.

The program is complemented by a Welcome Address by the rector of the University of Bern & Oligonucleotide Chemist Christian Leumann, short talks, company presentations and “Young Scientists Career Talks”, during which alumni from Swiss Universities in the field of RNA research, will present in very short talks their career paths and current position.

This year a poster session will be held during lunch for which abstracts can be submitted. Please note you can register for the event and submit the poster abstract later.
