An international team with researchers of the Institute of Virology and Immunology (IVI) of the University of Bern and the Swiss Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) showed that an endogenous protein prevents the virus from fusing with host cells. This raises hopes for new therapeutic approaches.

Ein internationales Team mit Beteiligung des Instituts für Virologie und Immunologie (IVI) der Universität Bern und des Bundesamts für Lebensmittelsicherheit und Veterinärwesen BLV konnte zeigen, dass ein körpereigenes Protein unseres Immunsystems das neue Coronavirus an der Fusion mit Wirtszellen hindert. Das weckt Hoffnungen auf neue Therapieansätze.
